Vancouver vanquished Messi and Inter Miami to reach Concacaf Champions Cup finals
By Sam Mbonu
In a stunning semifinal showdown at the CONCACAF Champions Cup, Vancouver Whitecaps FC delivered a commanding second-half performance to defeat Inter Miami CF 3-1 to win 5-1 on aggregate and book their place in the tournament final.
Miami struck early through Jordi Alba, who found the net in the 9th minute with a clinical finish that lifted hopes for the home side. The early lead, however, would not stand the test of a resurgent Whitecaps squad.
The second half saw a dramatic shift in momentum. Vancouver equalized in the 51st minute thanks to Brian White, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to bring the match level. Just two minutes later, Pedro Vite added a second with a precise finish that stunned the Miami defense.
The Whitecaps sealed their victory in the 71st minute through Sebastian Berhalter, whose long-range effort beat the Miami keeper and silenced the home crowd.
Despite a bright start, Miami struggled to regain control after the break, and the absence of several key players was evident in their inability to respond to Vancouver’s intensity.
Final Score:
Inter Miami 1 – 3 Vancouver Whitecaps
Goals:
• MIA: J. Alba (9’)
• VAN: B. White (51’), P. Vite (53’), S. Berhalter (71’)
The result sends Vancouver to their first-ever CONCACAF Champions Cup final, while Miami are left to regroup after a tough exit on home soil.
